Audi Q5 – recall and failures

  • The vehicles are equipped with control software regarded as unauthorized by the competent authorities. The Audi Q5 vehicles affected by this recall were manufactured between 2014 and 2017 and were equipped with 3.0 l Euro 6 diesel engines.
  • The nuts on the eccentric bolt of the rear-axle spring-link control arm may break due to stress corrosion. As a result, the rear axle could move in the wrong direction, in an uncontrollable manner at high speeds. The Audi Q5 models affected by this recall were manufactured between 7 November 2019 and 16 April 2021.
  • The propellant used in the Takata airbag inflator may experience a material alteration over time due to degradation occurring after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures and high-temperature cycling. In the event of an airbag being deployed, the excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator body to rupture and metal fragments may pass through the cushion material causing injury to the occupants. The 2009 – 2011 Audi Q5 models affected by this recall were manufactured between 2008 – 2011.
  • Moisture can penetrate into the belt starter generator (RSG – Riemen-Starter-Generator). This can result in a short circuit, leading to local overheating and increased risk of fire. Due to the permanent power supply of the starter generator, this can occur when the vehicle has already been parked for a while. The Audi Q5 models affected by this recall were equipped with 2.0 TFSI engines and Mild-Hybrid systems and manufactured between May 2017 and March 2020.
  • Due to a manufacturing error, the adjustment mechanism on the backrest frame of the front seat may be faulty or incorrectly welded. As a result, the stability of the seat back and its restraining effect in the event of a rear-impact collision may be impaired, increasing the risk of injury. The Audi Q5 models affected by this recall were manufactured between 26 June and 15 July 2020.
  • During the production of the instrument panel, the welding of a joint may not have been executed in line with the specifications in the area where the passenger airbag is attached to the control panel. As a result, the airbag may be damaged during deployment, reducing its protective capacity and increasing the risk of an injury. The Audi Q5 models affected by this recall were manufactured in November 2018.
  • The wheelhouse trims may not have been adequately attached to the vehicle. As a result, the wheelhouse trims could detach in motion, posing risk for the following traffic. The Audi Q5 models affected by this recall were manufactured between July 2015 and December 2018.
  • The master brake cylinder’s wall may not be thick enough and the cylinder may develop a leak or fail to work. This may cause a failure of the hydraulic braking system, potentially leading to an accident. The Audi Q5 models affected by this recall were manufactured between July 2018 and March 2019.
  • The individual pistons on the rear wheel brake may not work as required. This could lead to a delayed brake performance, increasing the risk of accidents. The recall affects vehicles produced between April 2018 and May 2018.
  • The additional coolant pump can block due to foreign particles in the cooling system. This can result in the pump overheating which could lead to a fire. The recall concerns vehicles with 2.0 T engine manufactured between March 2011 and December 2016.
  • Differences in the mixture ratio for the initiating devices for the airbags or seat-belt pre-tensioners could lead to the airbags or seat-belt pre-tensioners not activating in the event of an accident. Recalled are vehicles produced between July 2016 and December 2016.
  • In the event that a side airbag is triggered, the inflator casing may burst causing the driver or passenger to be injured by metal fragments that become detached as a result. The recall concerns vehicles which have been produced during January 2015.
  • It is possible that, in isolated cases, oil arrives into the brake force amplifier through the vacuum hoses. This can lead to damage of the amplifier membrane and consequently to reduction of brake force, which could lead to an accident. The recall affects vehicles produced between March 2012 and December 2012.
