Volkswagen Polo V 2009-2017 – reviews, typical faults

Read Time:2 Minute, 54 Second

Volkswagen Polo V – One of the most mature city cars. The polo impresses with its finish. It is also comfortable and reliable to drive.

  • Years of production: 2009-2017
  • Engines: benz. 1.0-2.0 (60-220 hp), diesels 1.2-1.6 (75-105 hp)
  • Versions: htb 3d, 5d
  • Length / wheelbase: 397/247 cm, width / height: 168 / 145-148 cm, luggage compartment: 280-952 liters

Volkswagen Polo V – BODY FUNCTIONALITY

Polo is one of the largest city cars. This also applies to the interior of the trunk. As a result, small Volkswagen will pass the test on longer journeys. It can also be used as a family car. In better versions, the interior is impressive. In the basic ones, the manufacturer saved on materials.

Volkswagen Polo V – ENGINES

The 1.4 16V naturally aspirated engine has the best reputation. The 1.2 three-cylinder is too weak and the pre-facelift TSI can be a lot of costly problems. The engines introduced after the modernization are a safe choice, as well as the 1.6 TDI diesel – economical and durable.

EMERGENCY

Polo is a solid construction that is free from sudden faults. Most problems are caused by natural wear of parts (e.g. wheel bearings, suspension sleeves, clutch, etc.). This is especially true of diesel, the real mileage of which is very high. The downside is the poor timing chains in gasoline 1.2 / 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI (facelift) engines.

COSTS

Time flies and Polo prices are practically standing still. Mainly, modestly equipped cars with high mileage, which are difficult to sell, are cheaper. The current service is relatively cheap due to a very large base of inexpensive replacements.

WORTH KNOWING

  • The market is full of imported cars with an uncertain history. Whoever does not want to fall into the trap and accepts higher prices, can view the Das Welt Auto offer, which includes a vehicle condition inspection and repair before its sale.
  • The revamped CrossPolo has an extra 15mm of ground clearance and an off-road styling package.
  • Until 2014, the GTI version had a 1.4 TSI TC (180 HP) double-supercharged engine.

MODEL HISTORY

2009 Polo V (type 6R) makes its debut
2010 range is completed by the off-road version of the CrossPolo with increased ground clearance
2013 limited Polo R WRC Street (220 hp)
2014 modernization – bumpers, lamps and engine palette were changed
2017 premiere of Polo VI (AW)

TYPICAL DEFECTS AND REPAIR COSTS

  • Timing faults in TSI engines – The wear-out chain was sometimes replaced under warranty.
  • Servicing – the DSG gearbox 150 thousand km may require first repairs.
  • Ignition Coil Failures – Coils are one of the less durable components of gasoline engine equipment.
  • Suspension – noises Cheap stabilizer connectors and wheel bearings wear out the fastest.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

+ Surprisingly high driving comfort.
+ Very good driving characteristics.
+ Interior design in more expensive versions.
+ Large stock of cheap spare parts.

– Price-to-age and equipment ratio.
– Performance of basic engine versions.
– Many Polo’s have distorted mileage.

WORTH BUYING

The 1.0 TSI and 1.2 TSI petrol engines work well. We recommend face-lift models – they have engines with a timing belt on the belt.

WATCH OUT FOR

Cars with a dual-clutch DSG gearbox with mileage over 150,000 Cars with a supercharged 1.2 TSI (pre-2014).
