Volkswagen Tiguan 1.gen. – BODY FUNCTIONALITY
The Tiguan is one of the most expensive models in its class on the aftermarket. For this car, however, the high prices are fully justified, as it is a refined design. The car was produced only in a 5-door version. In 2010, the manufacturer slightly changed the appearance of the indicators, buttons and knobs, and the steering wheel. Drivers call it “half-lift” as the new body only came out a few months later.
Volkswagen Tiguan 1.gen. – ENGINES
The ads are dominated by diesel. Only the successful 2.0 TDI CR (110, 140, 170 hp and 177 hp) was offered. All Tiguan gasoline units have direct fuel injection and turbocharging. The 1.4 TSI 160 KM variant is a not very successful engine equipped with a turbocharger and a compressor. The 2.0 TSI with 200 HP seems to be the optimal choice.
Volkswagen Tiguan 1.gen. – EMERGENCY
The car has two weaknesses: emergency small-engine TSI engines and worn-out DSG transmissions. Without major problems, they can withstand approx. 200 thousand. km, later generate costs.
Very high prices of used cars and … affordable prices of spare parts.
Huge supply of cars, the overwhelming majority of imported cars. It is very difficult to find a well-kept car.
- In the 110, 170 and 177 HP versions, the diesel particulate filter was obligatory from the beginning of production, and in the 140 HP version, it was first optional, and from 2009 – as standard.
- Interesting equipment options: off-road Track & Field and Track & Style, and the sports R-Line.
- The 4Motion all-wheel drive is easy. It is only worth knowing that there are also front-wheel-drive versions on the market.

TYPICAL DEFECTS AND REPAIR COSTS
- Blow On Cold
All Tiguan diesel engines are common rail powered. There are no longer any problems with the durability of the head. The manufacturer also improved the design of the oil pump. After all – when replacing the timing gear (preferably every 90,000 km), it is worth dismantling and checking the mentioned pump.
- Failures of the DSG transmission
The problem affects the entire Volkswagen group. It is about operational wear and after 150-200 000 km you need to prepare for regeneration.
- Timing replacement in 1.4 TSI engines
Tensioners withstand 100 thousand. km.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
+ This car is very good to drive on a daily basis. It is suitable both for the city and further routes.
+ Very economical diesel.
+ Large stock of cheap spare parts.
– The range of gasoline engines lacks a cheap version ideal for LPG.
The best choice is a 140-hp, two-liter four-wheel-drive turbodiesel with a manual gearbox.
WATCH OUT FOR
1.4 TSI / 160 HP versions with DSG transmission. Buying such a car is a lottery.
