Volvo S60 II / V60 IIn this model, style won over functionality. Volvo, however, took care of a high level of safety and adequate durability.

  • Versions: sed, kmb

BODY FUNCTIONALITY

Volvo S60 II

Already the first edition of the S60 (2000-2010) broke with the once boring Volvo styling, and in the “two” the concept of a limousine with a gently sloping roof line was developed, supplementing the offer with the V60 station wagon – nice but not too spacious. Both body versions offer limited space for couch passengers. However, a bad word cannot be said about the interior finish or the equipment of most cars, also in terms of safety (the standard is the City Safety system, which brakes against obstacles at speeds of up to 30 km / h).

Volvo S60 – ENGINES

Volvo S60 II

An exceptionally wide range of engine versions has evolved. It includes Volvo engines, borrowed from Ford (1.6 / 2.0 petrol engines) and the 1.6 / 2.0 diesel engines of the PSA group. Found in stronger versions, the effective 4×4 drive is based on the Haldex clutch.

Volvo S60 – EMERGENCY

Most often, problems with Aisin automatic transmissions (weak bearings) are signaled. The rest is a consequence of wear and tear (e.g. rear wishbone bushings).

COSTS

The car is complicated, and the supply of parts and the availability of the service – are average.

MARKET SITUATION

A total of over 700 S60 and V60 are waiting for buyers. In the case of the station wagon, the diesel has a clear advantage. Quite a lot of other premium brands, the percentage of cars from the domestic distribution network.

WORTH KNOWING

  • The effective and appreciated aftermarket version of the V60 Cross Country appeared in 2015. The following year it was joined by the S60 CC.
  • Volvo “mixed” a lot in the markings. The symbols (eg T3, D4) do not say much about the type of engine, which depends on the year and even the drive (from 2015, the D4 FWD had a 2.0 R4 diesel, and the D4 AWD – 2.4 R5).
  • Geartronic is classic “slots”. The Powershift transmissions are dual-clutch transmissions.

MODEL HISTORY

2010 premiere of Volvo S60 II and the V60 estate based on it
2013 modernization – the removal of double headlamps, replacement of the engine range with new generation units – 2.0 R4 from the Drive-E family
2018 production discontinued, S60 III / V60 II

TYPICAL DEFECTS AND REPAIR COSTS

  • Failures of “vending machines” after 200,000 km
The high engine power and the lack of gear oil changes are hard for the bearings.
  • Suspension knocking
Pins and bushings are easily accessible, reducing the cost of removing play in the suspension.
  • Problems with on-board electronics
In this model, the electronics are extremely complex, which is conducive to errors.
  • Trunk Handle Failure
The rear doors are most often immobilized by a damaged contactor.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

+ A wide range of durable motors.
+ Rich equipment, security level.
+ No corrosion problems.

– Still high offer prices.
– Limited interior space, small trunks (also for the station wagon).
– Average durability of “automats”.

WORTH BUYING

A car from the national network. It will be well-kept and regularly serviced. More like diesel – even 1.6 (low fuel consumption) should not be deleted.

WATCH OUT FOR

Cars without service documentation. Negligence in handling the damage, incl. automatic gearboxes.
